Is Tongue Twitching Worrisome?

Can I appeal to this group with another question. I just can't stop worrying. My tongue feels so strange. The back left side has been feeling itchy and I most definitely see a twitch on the same side in one place then another but over 2-3 minutes. Is this multifocal twitching? Someone mentioned that this is more worrisome. I have heard people having twitches on the center of their tongue. My twitches are very light and on the side. I truly feel scared and terribly embarrassed. I'm a complete mess.

Lilly,I seem to be the resident tongue twitcher at the moment. My tongue twitches ALL THE TIME. I get the tiny flickers on the sides, in the middle, the big thumpers in the middle, zaps on the tip, etc. My neurologist at Mass General Hospital, one of the best hospitals in the world, says the same thing you can find by googling tongue twitches. They are nothing to be concerned about unless you have trouble speaking or swallowing. (and even if you do, doesn't mean you have something sinister) BFS can effect any voluntary muscle, tongue included. You'll find there are LOTS of tongue twitchers on this site. It's very common. -Matt

Hi Lilly, fellow tongue twitcher too.....asked my neuro should I be worried about tongue twitches he said no..the tongue is one big muscle..and with bfs any muscle can and most probably twitch at some time.....remember we use our tongue a lot....And as Matt said it's very common....best wishes, try not to stress ok...Shannon

I know some people around here disagree with me, but if you grind a lot at night like I do that could be the culprit. Grinding not only effects that jaw and tmj joint, but your tongue does some funky stuff inside your mouth while you are grinding. I have noticed that sleeping with a night guard has reduced most all of it. It only takes one inflamed nerve to do it. If I am right, yuu probably feel it in the same place more often then not.

I get tounge twitches all the time. It used to scare me but I realize now it's just BFS. And when I say twitch, I don't mean when I stick it out. I mean actually twitching of my tounge. Don't worry about it. It's just another twitch.
