Dealing with Stress and Shaking

Hi all, just looked and I think it's been over a year since I last posted. I have had serious blood pressure issues, (quit taking my meds, was under stress & it went totally out of control), shows what stress will do to you! Anyway, I have had a lot of internal shaking at night, (have had this on and off for years, but it seems slightly worse lately, even wakes me up, or keeps me from falling asleep, not sure which). I'm sure it's just part of the BFS thing, or maybe fibro, as they claim it as a symptom as well. Would appreciate hearing about your experiences with this. I'll start calcium & mag & see if that helps. I've had a lot of sleep starts and issues with sleep the last couple of years. I'm a long time BFS'er and still going strong, Peace and Blessings, Denise

Internal shaking came at the same time as the onset of my twitching. It is subsided some (but does recur at times) I think mainly because of the .5 mgs twice a day of Klonopin I take. Not recommending this to you as I would not take it myself just for internal shaking or even twitching. I really take it more for the bodywide restless leg type sensation I get that are truly unbearable. Since you have been at this for so long and twitching is the main symptom the newbies and frequent visitors stress about the most, could you update us on the nature of your twitching today and over the last year. I really wonder how this twitching stuff evolves over time if it indeed remains a lifelong issue.I hope your blood pressure is under control now. Could your internal shaking be a side effects of any meds you are taking for that?Krackersones

Hi, I've had several years at a time where I've had little, or no symptoms. I've also had years where I've had just about every symptom that exists. I've had the tongue twitching, which I know frightens a lot of people. With me, it's been a lifelong condition with many remissions and hasn't really affected my life too much, with the exception of the first year or so. I was young and like most, pretty scared. Yes, my bp is finally under control--thanks for asking. Don't think the internal shakiness is due to the meds, and have heard that the medication you're taking is excellent. I take valium and it seems to calm it a bit sometimes. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll try and check in more often if I can be of help to others. I pm'd someone who was afraid of back twitches, which I've had a lot over the years. Also, when all this started I had "preceived weakness" in my shoulder/arm. It hurt to lift my hairdryer, etc. That was in my early 20's. I'm now in my late 50's and I'll get the same thing at the beginning of a relapse often! It's really not weakness, if you can lift a purse, etc. But I would defintely get a tired achy feeling when holding a baby's head to feed them, etc. Strange disorder. Overactive nervous system I believe. Best Wishes, Denise

I have the internal shaking at night most of the time. I have had it for longer than my twitching(twitching 2 1/2 years and twitching 24/7) My shaking seems to wake me up at night. I feel like I almost always wake up in a "startle" and feel like I am shaking. Is that what you mean? Years ago the Dr. told me low blood sugar--I know that it is not that. It does not even feel like the shakiness you get from low blood sugar--this feels internal. I think you are right--we just have an over active nervous system. Our body is always on alert:)Sue

Wow..it's great to hear from some "oldtimers" with their experience with this. It really helps when you all come on and post reassuring words. It really helps us "newbies" who are struggling with this. Leslie

Hi Denise,I think there must be something "going around" with the internal shakiness/night starts ect ect right now. I've had this alot lately too...mostly the night starts, which totally drive me nuts. It is like, as I am falling asleep, for about 2 seconds I wake up totally freaked out that something is wrong, or I'm like dying or something (LisaLM once posted about her expierence with this exact same feeling, and it helped me so much)...but then I immediately realize I'm in bed and its night time and I'm just fine. This will sometimes happen several times before I'm able to fall asleep. It sometimes happens several nights in a row, and sometimes it goes away for a week or more before slithering back in. It totally irritates me! I think you are right, it is just part of BFS, many many people have said they expierence the same thing. I dont take any medications, but I havent found anything at all that really helps with this, except (oddly enough) skin to skin contact. Occasionally when I'm having a tough night, I will go get my son out of his crib and snuggle him into bed next to me (without waking him of course), and it works, I'm able to fall asleep...although I'm not sure why.I'm not sure if this helps at all....but this is what its like for me...totally annoying!~*~Amy~*~
