Question about Jerking While Falling Asleep

Hi everyone,I just have a question to those of you have the jerks while falling asleep. Can you describe what it is like? To me the jerking is worse than the twitching and it really freaks me out. Mine go like this:1) It doesnt happen every night, just every so often.2) When it does happen, it happens about 10-20 times while I am drifting off to sleep.3) Sometimes they are mild, other times my whole body jolts. Is this similiar to what you all have experienced? Do you think what I am experiencing is just another BFS symptom, or something to worry about? I had an EEG done this morning and will hopefully hear back from the Dr soon, but until then I am really freaked out since this past weekend the jerking happened ALOT. Thanks for any help you can offer!! Alisha

I've had my whole body jerk, but very rarely. More often I'll just have a foot or a finger or an arm jerk. And like you, when it does happen, it'll happen several times in the same night. I've never worried about it because it isn't a symptom of ***.

This has happened to me alot during this flare. Once in a while I'll have a whole body jerk, other times it's an arm, leg, foot, hand, neck, shoulders--- I've even had what felt like my abdomen as well as parts of my face, i.e. jaw, forehead. I'll get them MANY times per night when I have them. My doctor has given me valium to take if they're too bad and I'm not getting any sleep. My neuro told me not to worry but offered a sleep study, (which also has an EEG). Best Wishes, Denise

This is nocturnal myoclonus, its a very common sleep problem that people suffer from, its not a symptom of BFS or on its own a concerning symptom of any neurological condition. It is made worse by anxiety/stress so try to relax a bit and I'm positive it will get better.

What about jerking when you are wide awake? Lately I have noticed that if I sit still for awhile my leg or arm will just jerk all of the sudden. This is really freaking me out! Could it be a muscle twitch? (I dont feel a twitch) Or is it something to worry about? Thanks!

Unless its something happening constantly all the time and is causing real pain and discomfort for you to the point where your doctor is thinking that something may be wrong with you then I'd try and relax about this jerking problem.I have to assume you are suffering from a lot of stress/anxiety right now which is almost definately the cause of your nervous system going into hyper mode and causing all sorts of ticks and twitches. Go see your doctor and see if he/she thinks its a problem....I'm guessing you already have and they told you something along the lines of what I just did..right?

I saw my neuro last week and they performed an EEG. I am currently awaiting the results. But when I was in there, I didnt tell him about the jerking during the day because that hadnt started happening yet. At the time I had only noticed jerking at night.I am trying to remain calm and not let these things get to me. Every day is a new struggle. Thanks for taking the time to respond. It really means alot.
