What is Causing Abdominal Reflex Loss?

Well I don't really know what to ask, but somehow it went to a new level for me because since 3 days or so my twitching dropped to 5-10% and I noticed some numbness in my face and somehow on my belly, too. So far so good, but also I noticed my abdominal reflex is gone. It has allways been easy to trigger it... Strength is still there and everything else is "fine", too. But what the hell does that typical MS-Reflex mean? Any ideas?I mean if BFS is auto-immune it is somehow related to MS and might cause similar symtoms, but this one is not nice./Nic

While BFS can be caused by an autoimmune condition as is MS I believe, but they are not caused by the same thing. They may share some similar symptoms, but are different in many ways. The twitching associated with BFS can occur anywhere and many people have had abdominal twitching as I have myself. The initial symptoms from what my neurologists have told me are not the same as BFS as they look for other signs than twitching. Hope that helps.Sir_Trouserz

Well, I am actually talking about "something else". The abdominal reflex causes a spontaneous contraction of the muscles when you scratch the side of your tummy with a toothpick or so. It had been there all my life and now disappeared...

You CANNOT SELF TEST YOUR REFLEX'S Properly. I had just posted a LONG thread about that and self testing then when I went to post it...It said "error" sooo I dont feel like re-typing it again lol I need to be doing house work and my boxer is licking my toes as I sit here lol EEEEWW!!!! Anyhow- As I learned in nursing school and from the docs Ive been to w/ all this twitching scare. YOU CANNOT SELF TEST YOUR REFLEX's PROPERLY YOURSELF. It is compared to tickling yourself. One time you may tickle yourself and get the willys then the next time you may do it and "nothing happen". Same thing w/ inflicting pain on yourself. Its hard to do..Because of what "THE POWER of THE HUMAN BRAIN". I asked my Dr. if I could test my strength..He said "sure.." but I gaurantee you've tested way to hard. Sure enough when he did my clinical exam I realized that I had been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over doing it. It doesnt matter how many push ups you can or cannot do..How much weight you can lift , etc. Its not about it..the clincal test is soooo simple..It doesnt take much resistance or strength test to spot DEFINATE weakness. (thats what I was told) and I've read on this board a million times for reassurance. I know I had been testing my self ENTIRELY to HARD. I was taking on my hubby a man 6'4 weighing in at 235 thinking I was "strength testing" with all the resistance etc I did w / him and eventually I hurt myself. My point is..Leave the self testing to the docs. They KNOW what to look for. WE DO NOT. NOT EVEN I. If you stood up and your leg collapsed, Ok YEAH, call a doc asap. but...if you got a reflex response a week ago and you checked it again and got no response, CHANCES are YOUR DOING IT WRONG! I dont mean to sound insensitive but I am trying to save others from what I went through. My rotator cuff STILLLLL hurts from where I was doing left hand push ups...(yes using just ONE hand to push up on). *pregnant and all*. silly I know, but hey I thought it was a self test  Anyhow- your fine, your young, and attractive ;) It just doesnt happen to attractive people ;) Just kidding! Anyhow, I hope ya get my drift here...With BEST INTENTIONS, DEEDEE

I know what you mean and basically you're right, of course. On the other hand I had allways been able to induce this reflex by myself, but not anymore since yesterday. Something feels wrong... But maybe it is really nothing. I hope so. Thank you anyway ;)

Believe it or not, I do not always exhibit the classic knee jerk reflex it can take several hits with the hammer to trigger it. The reason for failure to exhibit a reflex can be because the muscles are tensed, you are in effect primed to resist an attack or blow. If you are relaxed the reflex will return, and if I had the magic key as to how to relax, I doubt if I would be on this board because the more you think about a thing the harder it becomes. Ignore it and move on.
