SSRI's and Permanant Twitching?

Anyone think that taking SSRI's can lead to permanant twitching. I read somewhere that it can lead to permanant muscle twitching. I know that after i started paxil 5 years ago the twitching in my forearm started and never stopped. I was only on it for 6 months. Then after taking lexapro 2 years back my thumbs and figers and toes started twitching. They have now never stopped. Anyone else started twitching after SSRI's and do u think they were the cause. I wish we could prove it and make a class action lawsuit.

Anything's possible; my twitching started decades before these were on the market. I've tried a couple of different ones for various reasons over the past several years and found that I suffer terrible side effects from them. However, I know others that they've really helped.Denise

My twitching started in November of 2007, just 2 1/2 weeks after my dr started me on Prozac. Yes I do believe that SSRI drugs will cause the twitching. I just hope it isn't permanent. I am now taking half of what the other dr had gotten me up to. The twitching is still there, but not as much. Cindy

hey sanfordsg,i too was wondering the same..seems my twitching started when i began lexapro- twice now on two occasions. i am getting my butt off it. not worth it! good luck hon. :p

I was taking 50mg of Zoloft (or its generic) from Aug. 2005-May 2007, rarely skipping or forgetting doses for most of that time. My muscle twitching started about six weeks ago (or that's when it had gotten to the point where I could not dismiss or overlook it). Lately, I have felt more stressed and anxious than usual--first with the holidays and now things at the office. I'm now wondering...can stress/anxiety make BFS symptoms worse in the absence of Zoloft? Could this be an effect of going off the drug? I sincerely hope this isn't permanent! :(

I had my twitching start in earnest 6 hours after I started Lexapro for the first time, and get worse on an increased dose. I can't prove this, of course, but that is my experience. When I tapered down, I had a remission with each reduction, but the twitching eventually came back and stayed that way. Angry about the nonchalant prescription of these drugs that are potentially dangerous? Yes! Resigned to what happened? Also, yes. I can't dwell on the anger anymore, but move on.-Dave

I've been taking Paxil for 7 weeks. I know I twitched before starting, but I don't remember it ever being like this. Fortunately it blunts my anxiety and depression or I'd be a total wreck right now.

My twitches started after some paxil use, but about 3 years after my first use of the drug. I have had different physical things like vertigo, the twitching, headaches, etc. and I often have wondered if paxil didn't have something to do with it. BUT there is no evidence to support this medically, and I think that paxil has really helped me overall in times of extreme anxiety. If it really did cause this twitching then it would be a major downside, but I have a feeling that it is just as likely to have been caused not by Paxil, but by the reason that we go on paxil...ie prolonged emotional stress. So if many of us have been on paxil and have this problem it could just as well be that it is caused by our own stress and that paxil is actually an improvement for that. just a thought
