Twitching, Fasciculation, Pain in Legs

Hi everybody,Since end of December I have the following symptoms: Twitching in my legs, sometimes in my arms, hands or my back. On some days I have a twitching over my right ear which disappears after that for some days again. My doc could reproduce this fascics by tapping the muscle. Sometimes I have a weak pain in my legs, feet or even more rare in my hand, but it seems to be no cramp, since my muscles are not cramped when this happens. I sometimes even have a feeling that my legs become tired faster than before. My doc checked my reflexes which were normal and mady a blood analysis, my CK level is normal at 101. Since December I take a magnesium pills and vitamin-b pills, but it doesn't seem to help.My doc said I should go and see a neuro and that I should not worry. Can I exclude a serious illness like ALS. Because I once read that fascics, that can be reproduced by tapping, are an indication for a serious neurological problem. Can stress cause fascics that can be reproduced? Because I had a lot of it since December. But what about my weakness I feel? I must admit, I'm a little bit scared to go to my neuro next week.

Based on what you just said, I would think there is no reason you should be concerned about something like ALS. ALS wouldn't tend to be widespread as you say, and I've never heard of twitching over the ear. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no significance as to whether or not the twitching can be reproduced by tapping the muscle. I have seen videos of people with benign twitches that can do the same thing. Obviously if your doctor thought that this was a serious indication, he would not have told you not to worry. Pain is also not a symptom of ALS. What a neurologist is going to look for is muscle weakness and wasting. Not weakness like you may feel at times, but true, clinical, objective weakness that should already be somewhat noticeable. I'm sure the doctor only wanted you to go to the neurologist because he doesn't want you to be concerned and to be assured by someone that is qualified that nothing is wrong with you.

Thanks for the kind words :) I also think that the twitching over my ear does not indicate ALS, because I haven't ever heared of it either.I don't get what you said about the fascics being widespread. I thought they spread all over you extremities? One Information I forgot to mention: The twitching gets worse when I come home from work, it does twitch at work though, but not as strong as it does afterwards.

From how you describe your symptoms, they do sound consistent with BFS. in my humble opinion. Also, how would not going to see a neuro be of any benefit - little I would guess.

I'm scared because of the same reason any other mebmer is scared. That he finds something and sends me into a hospital where...you know the rest ;)

So by not going it will avoid anything being wrong. Sorry, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. Why scare yourself longer than is necessary. Based on your symptoms he's going to say BFS because they are nothing out of the ordinary. Personally I've never understood why anyone would put off going to see a neuro. In my case I couldn't get there fast enough. But that just me, and not everyone is like me. Thankfully so, some may say.

I understand what you mean, but there is always the big "What if..?" in my head if you know what I mean.Anyway, the longer I search the Internet for fascics, the more I become convinced that I don't have ALS. I started to look up English pages only. Here in Germany, almost all German websites say that twitches which reoccur after tapping are an indication for a serious muscle illness and it drove me crazy for some time.

Yes, yes it is! How often do you have this? I had it only 3 or 4 days sicne my fascics started, the last time was 2 days ago. What other symptomes do you have?

So the genreal consensus is: I have no ALS, nor any serious indications that seem to be related to ALS. But what I do have are symptoms that really say otherwise like normal CK or normal reflexes. My fascics are mainly in the legs, but wouldn't occure in other body parts randomly, either they appear constantly or not at all. Not even speaking about the fascics above my right ear.Is this correct?

Yeah, I found out by myself. What I find very strange is, sometimes I can reproduce them by tapping (mostly in the evening after work), but sometimes I can not reproduce them. The intensity by one tap also varies from a small single microtwitch to numerous twitches in different zones of my calf.Totally crazy!

Twitching becomes weaker every day and the "muscle weakness" has wandered from my upper leg into my calves. This is everything but not ALS, maybe I'm just totally crazy
