How Common are Floaters in BFS?

Just wondering how many of you guys have floaters in your visual field. Is this common with BFS? I seem to have noticed an increase in the number of floaters over the last few months. After dialating my pupils, my eye doctor gave me the all clear but I'm still a little concerned. Thanks,Vance

Hi Vance!I have had floaters in both eyes for many years. I was worried about them and so I visited a very reputable eye doctor here in Ballarat and was told all was ok and they become quite common as we age. My husband has them as well. Warm regardsSandra

I've got a floater in my left eye, it's kind of annoying. Eye doc said it was okay. What's really weird is watching it move as I move my head around!

I noticed a floater about the time my BFS symptoms started; in my early 20's. I just checked and still have it, (guess I'm just used to it). Also, at times notice lighter floaters that come and go. I'm now 56 and my vision is still 20 20 and I go to an opthmalogist annually. I can't really remember if I ever mentioned it to my eye doctor. Best Wishes, Denise

I have had many, many floaters for at least the last ten years and have only had BFS symptoms for nine months. I know, in my case, they aren't related to the BFS...but who knows...this is such a weird condition, maybe your floaters ARE related to your particular case. ?? :)

12Drifter12s by my understanding are in no way related to BFS. Almost everyone has floaters, its from the vitreous (spelling) gell breaking down in your eyes. I have had floaters since I was like 12 and they have cleared up somewhat. Nothing to be worried about at ALL. You will notice them if you look up at the sky or on a lighter background. The reason why they "float" is because they are swirling around in the gell in your eye. There are some experimental procedures to remove them, but after a few years they should get better or settle down. I used to see like 4 or 5 at a time and it would drive me crazy, now I hardly ever see one anymore. Totally ok to have them!

Yeah, totally agree floaters are very very common and not connected to BFS at all - just the gel drying up in the rear chamber of the eye. I've had them as long as I can remember too... A very sudden increase in the number of floaters (usually descrbied as a 'shower') in association with flashing lights and peripheral shadows (like a curtain being drawn over part of the eye) can indicate a more serious problem with the retina eg vitreous detachment, retinal tear and need urgent ophthalmological investigation.

Everyone has floaters. Even embryos! They are nothing more than coagulated proteins swimming in the jelly of your eyes. They become more the older you get but the brain removes them from your vision as it does with the blind spot. Look into the bright sky (no clouds) and don't move your eyes, so they become visual quite good and you can watch them as they slowly fall down.
