Reassuring Posts on Twitching & Anxiety

I am new to this forum, but I can tell you all that the posts I have read have been very reassuring. I have been twitching for about 2 months---about 2 1/2 weeks after beginning Prozac for anxiety. I have an "over the top" problem with anxiety. Like many of you, I went to that all inclusive source of information, the internet, and googled twitching and realized too late late what a HUGE mistake that was. Now, I simply refuse to even think about going there. This site has been the most helpful.I have had big continuous twitching and very very fine, fluttering twitching. Twitching in my arms, butt, fingers, toes, hands, feet, back, side, just about anywhere. Right now, I have them mostly in my upper arms and shoulders and they are very fine.I could almost get past this with the help from all of you, except that I am a prime age for ***.I am 50. How old are most of you????Cindy

Cindy, actually you not the “prime” age, but below average for a female, but that is absolutely irrelevant, because from the very little that you describe, your symptoms are 100% compatible with benign twitching. This sudden onset, all over the body twitching is typical of BFS. Whether they are fine, thumpers, intermittent or continuous is completely variable and the pattern does not mean anything, and you should get quite used to the variation. This weekend, as usual, I completely ignored the familiar, fine, rapid, vibration in my thigh, only to later realize that in this specific case, it was my cell phone vibrating in my pocket. That was a first. Oh, and I'm 45.

Hello-I am 25 and have been twitching everywhere for almost 3 years. You must understand that BFS changes all the time. One week you might have small twitches or then large twitches. After all this time just NOW I am getting buzzing. It really feels like someone has something that is vibrating in your arm/leg/foot. Some days you have stiff muscles, some days you have cramps. Some days you dont notice symptoms, and other days you just want to tear your skin off or go to sleep and hope when you wake up you cant feel the twitching. You will have highs and lows with this, however now is the time if you can get something for anxiety to help you get through it easier. I told the Neuro to give me Effexor since I know its one of the strongest you can take. Everything will be alright, and I know plenty of people over 50 that have twitches all over and just never went to the doctor (some of them have never been to see a doctor before!). Everything will be ok, in the words of my neuro "twitching can be caused by sooooo many things" Just because you have it means NOTHING. Get lots of sleep, take some multivitimins and dont let this take your life away from you. It has completely ruined the last 2 years with my kids, it has impacted my job and my relationships. After the storm there will be a beautiful rainbow.....I promise. Just hang in there =) Sean

35 -- going on 9 months of almost daily buzzing, cramping, neuropathicn pain, pins and needles, AND Daily all-over twithcing (sometimes rapid fine-flutter can't see to full thumpers for a week long)Mike

42 yrs old, will be 43 this coming Sunday. I am asking for no fasciculations for my Birthday. And a beer which I don't drink very much any more because of these stupid fasciculations.

I'm 36, been experiencing twitches, nerve pain including burning, tingling and pins and needles since I was 29. Still don't have no diagnosis, just worry everyday, but not about ALS, cuz I know that by now I'd probably be dead. BTW, my problems all started after a severe case of nausea that lasted 3 months. I'm 41. I've been twitching since Sept 07. My mum has the dreaded *** and believe me when I say my mother has never noticed the twitching. For her what brought her to the doctors was her real weakness in the legs and tongue, speech difficulties, swallowing difficulties. She didn't even know what a twitch was yet her neurologist says she twitches continuously. She's been sick for quite some time now and never feels the twitches.

37 - been twitching now and then as long as I can remember - exploded into body-wide twitching after some unfortunate web-surving a couple of weeks ago

I am 53 and I started twitching about 11 months ago. It steadily stays the same now. My son of 25 asked me today wether it was hereditary, because he also has twitches, especially in his abdominal muscles. My neuro asked me also wether my kids had twicthes. That would support the benign character.Just came back form two week skiing in the Alpes. I could keep up with my kids and friends without any problem. They where beaten while I said, lets take another run ! Of course still twitching everywhere, sometimes difficult to ignore.

Yoo Cindy.....Coach here....55 and have been twitching since 2001 or 2002...forget what year it started but its been over 6 years...Mine kind of started right after a bout of Step throat and a high fever of around 104...I'll never forget that period...I thought for sure I was on the front end of ALS...after all the internet searching and symptoms list of twitching...took me over 2 years to get it out of my mind that I had a benign condition of constant calf twitching and nothing more...my calves go non/stop...and I get twitches in other muscle groups, nut they seem to come and go...So relax, it ain't gonna kill ya...I've seem patients with ALS down at Johns Hopkins, and I can tell you fopr a fact, if you have it, you'll know it, and they'll be no mistaken the symptoms. If you can walk without any issues, and have no signs of obvious severe weakness, then its just benign fasciculations...I don't frequent this site much anymore, but return now and then to see how many newcomers the years bring along.
