Longstanding Chronic Pain: Back Role?

10 years for me (constant in calves), although currently into a 4 month long flare up involving soles of feet as well... totally bizzare feeling.

Dande, I note that you have stated that you have lower back pain? It is my belief that back problems can play a significant role in this syndrome. Have you seen a back specialist/chiropractor about your back? Perhaps a lumbar MRI would be appropriate?

I am a chiro and if you would like further info, please send me a private message and I would be happy to discuss your symptoms in more detail.

Kind regards,

2 years 8 months. I remember when I was at 8 months, and someone posted "Yahoo, I'm at 1 year, no more worrying for me". I though what a lucky guy he was, and how happy I would be at 1 year. Well here I am at 2 years and 8 months, and always find some stupid reason to worry. ...Though I know deep down inside we're all OK, because it's a disease of weakness, not twitching, that we're afraid of.
God Bless,

Twitching 13.5 months

Constant calf twitching. Occasional above knee and once in a great while, bicep and hand. Eyelid fluttered for three days not too long ago.

Vibrating feeling in legs, arms once in a while.

I also get a weird feeling in my left hand and right foot. Not quite numb, but close.

I sometimes wonder if I'm a slow case, and all these weird feelings I get in my arms and legs are the calm before the storm.

Anxiety level probably worse now than a year ago, primarily because I thought it would go away.

One year & 2,5 months. Eyelids same as in the beginning.
Legs 24/7 ("popcorn"), right biceps occasionally.
Physically strength increases every single day. I'm starting with tae-kwon-do lessons (in my 49).

P.S.
During last 14,5 months I've done 4 EMNG, CT, LD exams, MRI, and over 20 neuro exams by 4 Neurologists.

Five and half years and still going strong. The Energizer bunny has nothing on those of us who twitch all of the time. I've consulted with five neurologists over the last five years. I still see a neuro regularly and actually only recently got difinitive diagnosis of cramp fasciculation syndrome. Whew! What a relief!

11 months for me!!!

twitching all over but throat and tongue most annoying. excercing +++ despite muscle discomfort. cycle 30 miles this morning!!!

loved the Corinthians quote catharsis!!! :p

It has been 15 months for me. I agree that you hope this twitching is going to stop and after a year when it doesn't; I don't know what to think. I've decided to ask my GP to refer me to a Fibromyalgia specialist. Since
I have stiffness and sore burning muscles with this twitching I thought it might be worth a shot. I wonder has anyone on these sites looked into the Fibromyalgia angle?

Anyway as you know I live in Canada and to see a specialist takes 6 months to a year. But since I've had this over a year, I thought Fibromyalgia might be something to check out.

I've been twitching in various places throughout my body for over 1 year -- about 13 months. However, I had twitched to a lesser degree for about 3 years -- it just got a lot worse about 1 year ago.

I'm not scared about ALS anymore, however, I do wish the twitching would fade and lately it's as active as ever since I'm exercising more.

For anyone new and scared, I was a nervous wreck this time last year -- until I received a lot of reassurance from some great doctors and nice people on this forum. BFS is real and it's benign. Inspite of the twitch, I feel like a million (thank goodness!!).

Dear Jan, yes back problems, to be more specific, nerve root compression ican cause muscle twitching, but not in every case. Compression at L5 S1 could cause lower limb problems. Twitching in the upper body is not going to be related to your lower back.

My personal feeling on this is that people with BFS are for some reason predisposed to fasciculation. Then something comes along like a virus, back problem, anxiety, hormone inbalance etc and the fasciculations start.

Mine started with an episode of back pain, but never went. I have had calf twitching for 10 years now!

I can't tell you if chiropractic will reduce your twitching. It may help manage your low back problems and that in turn may help your twitching. I'm afraid there are no guarantees, but as you have a diagnosed back problem, I think it may be worth seeing a chiro.

Oh great I'm not even at my 6 month mark. 5 months here.

I feel like I have so far to go, but then again where do I have to go. 8 and 10 years of twitching and people are still worrying? Great!!! I'm going to drive my family mad by then.

17 years - I'm 32

constant twitching if calfs. Random everywhere else. I didn't think much of it untill the random "everywhere else" started with lightheadedness 7 months ago.

Also, my father and brother have 24/7 calf twitching.

Anybody else lightheaded?

mine started in march with just a persistant twitch in right shoulder.

3 weeks later jumped everywhere. even my but when i'm sitting. Can lean and make a pop also.

besides that i'm in the best shape of my life 5'3'' and 105 lb. work out daily and feel physically very strong. The twitching is mentally draining however. and has really put a damper on my normally carefree ways. To think I'm gonna be doing this for years is bad. But to think it may be a alow onset *** is worse all the best

Jeff,
I was lightheaded and had vison issues when I was going through my high anxiety phase for about 2 months. It has since gone away for the most part.

I had the lightheadedness when I first started twitching after I FREAKED when I read what twitches can potentially lead to. Now I just have major tailbone/sciatic pain wtih lots of twitching in the calfs (the ones that look like an invsible finger is pooking me). I also have them pretty much everywhere else throughout the day. Just last night my bicep muscle looked like it was going to jump of the bone and run around the living room. It was the absolute strongest movement these things have ever caused. :)

Hi,

I have not been on here for quite a spell. It is now, oh about 2 1/2 years with the twitching. Some days now I hardly notice or at least I don't think about twitching at all. I still get patches of hot spots once in a while but I have really tried hard to not get excited about them.

I have noticed increased stress makes them more noticeable as well as sometimes if I overdo exercising the leg ones come back(seeing a back connection there). Otherwise I have not been back to the neuro, have seen an endo and had a full endo work up...all fine. No emg either.

Welcome to all newbies and hello to all the "old timers" on here too.

Remember to those of you who are new to this,,as hard as it is to believe you are fine. You're doctors have told you that you are fine. It can be a very difficult thing to get your mind to accept that you are fine when something that does not happen normally to a person is happening to you.

So many of us still have this after so long, and are still here :) You will be too!.. ;)

Over 1 year for me. Started in the left eyelid then moved on to widespread. Also had the buzzing, jerks, etc. I don't notice it nearly as much now that I know what it is...BFS. I know they are still there but you just naturally go on with life without noticing as much.

7 1/2 months for me. Started after I quit my stressful job and added more stress by having to move and look for a new job. 3 EMG's later, I'm still fine :) Praise God !!!
