Exploring Dental Mercury Risks

I know that this may freak some of you out,but I have heard a lot about the possibility that the mercury from tooth fillings may be the cause of a lot of unexplained illnesses. I have researched the subject greatly, including speaking with mine and other dentists. The conclusion that I get is that no one is really sure one way or the other. Any Thoughts?

I have heard that also-can cause neuro symptoms too. However, during removal of mercury fillings more can get into your system. Fish can also be a contributing factor. You can get tested for mercury.

Roger,

According to my DDS, the American Dental Association has not found any association between mercury fillings and disease.

StephG22 is correct though, you can get mercury poisoning from other sources.

I just had this discussion with my Dentist a few weeks ago.

He said not to remove the fillings because the process of removal can get Mercury in your system. He also said there is no real evidence that the fillings we have cause any problems.

He did mention he has a MS patient who he did remove the fillings.

He recommended not to have them removed.

I had a Tox Screen and all levels "normal". ;)

The ADA, NHS and even World Health Organization have examined the issue and determined amalgam fillings are not a risk. It's been widely studied, and there is an occasional report of elevated risk but the balance of data generally show no increased incidence of disease between people with lots of fillings and those with none. (full disclosure: I have two dentists in my family)

yes they are.....and i am convinced they are not safe at all!!!! i have always been sceptical to these stories on amalgam-fillings but have begun to believe them.....mercury is one of the highest toxics for our bodies, including our brains and nervesystems. how can they say it is safe when they have to handle it as special toxic waste after the removal??? 1 gram of this crap is enough to kill someone!!! And this should be safe in our mouths??? Don't believe this anymore!!! see my other topic in the "about bfs" section.

I did see it. It's why I bumped all these other threads. I'm trying to do preemptive damage control before you manage to freak everyone out again. This is not a new topic on this board.

Mario...you're so sweet...you & Bill are saving the day today...I agree with your reason for bumping. :D) Now, I am going to ask my question again, cause I still dont know the answer...are all fillings that look "silver" mercury fillings, or are there "silver" fillings that are made of something else too?
