Twitching - Is Fatigue a Cause?

Besides our anxiousness about them, do you guys think that the underlying cause behind our twitching is fatigue? I know when I'm tired from excersizing or not getting enough sleep, the twitching seems to be in overdrive.

I excersize 5-7 days a week, and I always notice that they are worse after working out.

My other opinion is that our hyperawareness of every little sensation our bodies are giving us, creates more anxiety for us. I would imagine that most of the general population has twitching, just doesn't ever correlate them with anything bad.

JD:

I too exercise, and yes they are worse after. Which leads me at times to think it has to do with either exciting the CNS (trauma from breaking down muscle or pounding the Spine from running) or electrolyte/channelopathy theories.

I have taken the past 5 days off, and they are still present....24/7 all over, mostly the calfs. However, my back has been twitching more.....off and on.....

Lately I've had this BURNING sensation, WITHOUT the exercise in my quads.....last year I had it real bad in the calfs......

Which leads me back to "virus" and its ability to "relapse".....

I know ERIC will tell me BURNING is Lyme....and I'm pushing for a Western Blot perhaps.....

There are times I am completely RELAXED, no ANXIETY, and I still twitch....

I have noticed that while being in a JACUZZI I don't notice a thing....Vasoditalion of the blood vessels.....a friend who is a GP, not my Primary, recommend Calcium Channel Blockers (vasodilators).....Hmmmm....could this be vascular in nature? They are used to treat high blood pressure...my is fine...and don't want to lower it too much....

Who knows?

Sounds a lot like me. Right now it's mostly in the calves, but do get the occasional one timer in the back and just about everywhere else. I too have thought about taking some time off, but I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life and don't want to lose that feeling.

I have also wondered about the vascular nature of this, but I lean more towards muscle fatigue. Think about it, when we're stressing about this, nearly every muscle in our bodies is tense. This has got to have an effect on the twitching we have, whether it's in specific muscle groups or all over.

The virus thing is also interesting, but I'm not a believer. I have been dealing with the twitching for almost 11 years. I got over it to the point where either I didn't ever notice it, or maybe it wasn't happening anymore. I was way cool about the whole thing. Now, having a relapse back into the als thinking because of a *beep* dream I had, the twitching has either gotten worse because of my anxiety or I am just hyperaware of all body sensations again.

Maybe it's all just a mental thing....

Tense muscle....

I was cycling over 100 miles a week last year. I was on a TRI-Bike and in the Down position alot. I was most likely tense....I've tried Muscle Relaxants, to no avail.

This past year I really let up on cycling and ran more. Did a 1/2 Marathon in September...felt fine....no cramps.....I did inhale a ton of Gatorade for recovery....back to Electrolytes........?

11 years....wow.....how old are you? I'm 39 1/2......not counting.....this started bad in Oct/Nov 03.....I did notice a little movement in the calves while sitting on the #$$%^, and associated with exercise.....then I got a "viral"/"Run-Down" feeling after running a 10K Oct 03.....I haven't been the same since.........

Do you get the BURNING SENSATIONS in the calves, legs, arms?

I'm a month away from being 34. Don't usually get the burning sensation like your talking about unless it's from normal physical activity. I have seen it mentioned in several posts on this board however.

I notice the twitiching when I have a lot of time on my hands. When busy, it's easy to pass off as a nuisance. With me, as with a lot of us, anxiety about what's going on makes it so much worse.

11 years ago, same twitching, same anxieties.

Funny how it's so easy to fall back into all of the negative thoughts. Seems to happen to me when things are going very well in my life. Always expecting the worst, I guess.

I wonder how many of us have anxiety issues and if being medicated for that would ease the fear. Depression and anxiety is in my family.....hmmmm.

There were a TON of things that lead up to all this Oct 03 than just exercise......Friend died of Cancer, peson died on the Racqetball court while playing with me, Uncle (not blood related) passed with ALS, mom and dad passed away.......alot added up and I think....POP...I blew a gasget.....tried antidepressents, again to no avail....

My parents both were "worriers"......genes....gotta love them. I just hope my 7 and 6 year old have more of their mothers..... :)

I think this is the type of stress a lot of people are under when they notice the twitching. Maybe not to the extent of all the things going on in your life, but stress way beyond normal, everyday stress.

When I noticed my twitching, it was during the most stressful 21 month period of my life which began with my Dad's death and ended with a middle of the night phone call that my Mom was being rushed to the hospital for a heart attack....with a lot of other out-of-the ordinary stress happening in those 21 months (mid-life career change, infertility problems, various family problems).

When I went to see my GP, that was the feeling I had....POP, I blew a gasket.
