    Trying Out a New Regimen

I'm on 3 x 300mg per day. It doesn't seem to be making much difference except in one respect. I'm now hungry all the time. This would account for the weight gain

    Exercising: The Pros & Cons

If you take out the bits about twitching your post could have been from any runner. It's not unusual to have rough patches. They can be caused by work stress, viruses (colds, etc.), not having fueled up properly, a bad night's sleep or even simply losing the motivation.

    Terry's Running Performance Issue

Terry, your legs are only used to running half the distance. Walking is not adequate training for running. You were in a race and probably went off a bit too fast, too. It's not exercise intolerance IMHO.

    Twitching: Getting Awesome Soon!

Actually, yes, it is possible, sort of. CFS represents the mild end of the spectrum of PNHE, the other end being neuromyotonia, according to what I've read. With neuromyotonia the muscle activity is continuous, myokymia rather than fasciculation, and often results in hypertrophy. Given that...

How's this for a BFS experience?

Sometimes I get fairly strong twitches and sometimes they make me jump a little. So I was round the pub on Sunday having lunch. I'd just speared a cherry tomato on my fork when my arm twitched. It caught me by surprise and what started out as a twitch became a violent movement of the arm. The...

    Childlike Adventure & Swimming Success

Firstly, back strength: a high percentage of people have poor core stability, owing to a sedentary lifestyle coupled, in many cases, with poor posture. I certainly had very poor core stability. I find a Pilates class very helpful. Secondly, cramp: there are three very common reasons for this in...

    Myokymia Syndrome and Calf Injury

I have a tricky little problem. The neurologist diagnosed my problem as benign cramp - myokymia syndrome brought on (initially) by exercise. I currently have a calf injury that keeps being aggravated by the cramp and/or continual muscle activity. The neuro did not offer anything to relieve the...

    Quitting Smoking and Running 10KM

Thanks for that, Kit. I'm not too worried about the cramp sensations causing an injury, but rather being able to distinguish between those harmless pains and those warning me of overdoing it. I've already been caught out once.

    Quitting Smoking and Running 10KM

Let me start by stating that I have not yet been diagnosed, but BFS seems likely to me. Anywho... A year ago, aged 52, I quit smoking. I also started exercising. In November I started running. I signed up for a charity 10km race which is on Sep 9th as a way of celebrating a year off the...
